About us

Formerly known as the Opa locka Church of God of Prophecy, this congregation had its humble beginnings in 1952 in the home of Sis. Olive Smith with Zach Newblod serving as founding Pastor. In its early years the congregation like Israel moved from venue to venue, with the distinction of having one of those sojourns under a tree.
The present and permanent location was realised under the guidance of Pastor David Robinson and eight ladies who made up the church then. These ladies, Genora Robinson, Ina Mae Ferguson, Cordelia Beckham, Esther Saunders, Evelena Beckham, Marjorie Bass, Sara Smith, Florene Hope and the youths of the church worked tirelessly to ensure the completion of the Sanctuary and this was dedicated on October 9, 1979. The second phase of the construction was to be guided by Bp. Charles Mackie when a Fellowship Hall/Sunday School Room was added.
One of the greatest impact this congregation has had on the life of the Church is in the field of music. This influence was sparked by the foresight and vision of Bp. Walter Smith who was instrumental in the formation of the Florida Sunshine Band, the Anointed Men of Prophecy and the Sunbeams. The Florida Sunshine Band is an independent ministry within the South Florida community, while the Anointed remains a part of this local church, while courting members from other denominations. They have now propelled to the international stage, performing at the International General Assembly of the Church, with the distinction of gracing the stage in back to back Assemblies. The 93rd Assembly in Louisville, KY and again at the 94th Assembly in the historic Music City of Nashville, TN. Meanwhile, the Sunbeams has mushroomed to include almost 40 young people ministering in drama, singing and dancing. They have in recent months made their mark in the State and International Teen Talent competitions of the Church. This culminated with them performing on the stage of the General Assembly of 2006.
The Church continues to reach out to a world influenced by the prince of the power of the air. We strive to show forth the love of Christ by exhibiting this love "by this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one for another." John 13: 35. As a church, we are continuously striving for relationships that build a strong community and help us grow in our love for Jesus.
